The following obituary appeared in _The Alloa Advertiser_, 17 Feb 1917.
"THE LATE JAMES HUNTER - An old and respected townsman has just passed
away in the person of Mr. James Hunter, retired wool spinner. The
deceased, who had reached the advanced age of 76, was a native of
Sauchie, but had spent the greater part of his life in Alloa. He was
for several years connected with Gaberston Mill before he entered the
employment of Messrs. John Paton Son and Coy, Ltd., where he continued
for over 40 years. Deceased was a well read, intelligent man, and was
practically all his life identified with the temperance movement. He
was also one of the early members of the local Co-operative Society and
on more than one occassion he filled the office of chairman."
24 Feb 1917 edition had the following notice:
"Acknowledgement: Mrs. Hunter and family desire to thank all friends for
their kind expressions of sympathy and floral tributes received in their
sad bereavement.
85 Hill Street, Alloa."

[62] One of 13 children, Qualified as Colliery Manager at Glasgow Technical College Emigrated to South Africa in 1895. Manager of Whims Colliery, Alloa in 1895. Thought to have built one of the first tandem cycles in the 1880's James inherited the brass faced clock and a silver salver from his father according to his Will.
