Owl

As a nocturnal flyer, the owl came to signify death and the mysteries of night in virtually every culture; later it came to stand for Christ’s victory over the power of darkness and evil. The words of David’s Psalm 102 were applied to the forsaken and inconsolable Christ in His suffering, “I am like a desert owl; I have become like an owl among the ruins. I am sleepless and I moan; I am like a sparrow alone on the housetop.”
