These days, most of my work with cameras during shows is with a video camera. I shoot live shows with a Canon XL1s DV Camera. It has exceptional low light capturing characteristics as well as lens interchangeability which is important for full coverage of a show. I don't set up on a tripod when I work. I roam the front of house to get coverage from all angles and add a sense of the dynamic nature of a live show environment.
My experience in shooting stills in this environment has greatly enhanced my ability to "get the money shots". You develop a sense of knowing what to expect from a performer that has the camera pointing in the right direction at all times.
