Uneven, unmortared stone walls ring a square courtyard, enclosed on all sides but open to the sky. Tall trees in a line, above and behind the south wall, would cast their shadows into the courtyard on a winter's noon. On this spring day, they shirk that duty, fleeing at another angle, yet falling short.
