A grey path made of small stone bricks stretches out to the west from an uneven beginning near the door's threshhold. Immediately your eye is caught by the tower to the left. The view here is much clearer than in the courtyard. The tower, made of dark, forbidding brick, juts upward into the blue spring sky like a shout, or a word of warning. More than thirty meters high, its round blackness culminates in a wider portion at the top. A larger room with a crenelated balcony perhaps --- it is difficult to discern precisely. Back down at the ground level, it becomes clear that the tower is at least seven meters in diameter. A dark stone tunnel or corridor, completely enclosed, runs the distance from the base of the tower before merging with a stone portion of the wall of the Abode out of which you have just stepped. You head westward down the path. Farther ahead, the path splits. |
